--SOLD--
This 2 3/4 inch artisan made OOAK maple veneer tatting shuttle was handcrafted, initialed and dated by Dave. Dave is a scrimshaw artist and has done scrimshaw inked etchings on fossil ivory, bone and antler for years. His pyrography on this tatting shuttle is similar to his needle etched fine art on ivory, except it is burn etched into wood using very fine razor tipped pyrography pens and a magnifying lens. Like scrimshaw, this painstaking work takes several hours over several sessions to finish. It is done freehand without laser or template, so no two are ever alike.
He has created an antique distressed finish using blond and amber shellacs, finished with a final hand rubbed bees wax polish. Dave makes his own polish using gum turpentine and bees wax.
